Dear Stephen,

We are looking for someone to do a bit of systems programming work on our DEC machines. We basically want to port a number of device drivers from Ultrix to the Mach operating system. We have the Ultrix source code for all the drivers and (obviously) the source for Mach 3.0.

We have money to spend. We would prefer someone to do it full time, but would be prepared to discuss alternatives. Our Lab Manager will oversight the work and provide some support. We feel the whole job will take 3 months. The work is available immediately.

Do you have any suggestions as to who might be suitable and available? (feel free to hawk this around)

Michael Fry

A brief specification is as follows.

1. Port the TX frame buffer/PIP device driver from Ultrix 4.3 to Mach 3.0. The TX is a turbochannel option card. It has 24 bit colour and supports an addon PIP video card. The device driver should include support for the PIP. The device driver should fuuly support the Xtx X server which includes an extension to support video. Device driver ports to Mach3.0 already exist for several other frame buffers.

2. Port the DECaudio device driver from Ultrix 4.3 to Mach 3.0. Device driver should have functionality to support the Alofi audio server.

3. Port the DEFZA FDDI device driver from Ultrix 4.3 to Mach 3.0. A device driver for the LANCE ETHERNET driver on both Ultrix 4.3 and Mach 3.0 is available for comparison.
