Once upon a time, Kirk Nesbitt was heard to say:

} etc, etc?

It's great. At the moment, the kernel is at v1.1, patchlevel ~37 or so --
but you don't want to go that far yet.

Get the Slackware distribution from one of the main Linux sites
(monu1.cc.monash.edu.au:/pub/linux is one) -- also read the comp.os.linux
groups and the FAQs therefrom.

Slackware is simple to install and set up, and worked first time for me.

As far as dos emulation goes, "dosemu" currentky provides very good DOS
functionality. WINE (when finished) will handle Windoze emulation by
translating Windoze API calls to X11 calls.
