Given the concerns voiced here, I chased this matter up with the
Corporate Resposibilities Unit. I acquired a copy of "Policy on
Privacy of Student Records", in particular sections 3.3, 3.4, and 4.3
apply to the way Academic Computer Services, has in the past, kept
student information in the "GCOS" field of our password database. To
rectify this problem, users will no longer be able to view other
user's GCOS information anymore (users will still be able to view
their own GCOS information). Academic Computing Services
administrators will still have full access to the information in the
GCOS field (which is provided by section 4.2). Any further questions
or concerns about this matter may be directed to me.
