Freeware/Shareware

I've just finished writing a small library to convert between number
bases ( including a radix point ) and a command line program that uses
the library. I've been working on this program for ages on and off
(mostly off I'm sorry to say). Anyway I believe that although it's not
original it probably is worth releasing as shareware/freeware. My
preference would be Freeware at this stage because quite frankly I don't
see anyone paying for it.

Has anyone out there actually submitted programs to an archive site. I'm
particularly interested in the legal aspects and disclaimers and if
anyone has had any bad experiences publishing software as
freeware/shareware. Other tips etc. would be appreciated too.

I'm also interested in hearing from anyone that's played around with
writing number base conversion programs....
