Bootdisk query.

I wonder if anybody can help me (well a friend of mine actually).
Whenever he starts up his computer it comes up with the message "Not a
bootdisk, replace and....". It just sits there and he can't get into his
system.

It's not the config or autoexec because they don't get a chance to
execute. He's planning on wiping everything from BIOS. Firstly is this
wise? and secondly what else should he try?

Thanks guys,

Bill
