[ProgSoc] email storage

If I were to put a mailing list on my server, how are all the emails that
are sent stored? Is it stored in some sort of "mailbox" on the server that
is particular to that email address (say my list was called
blah@nospam.mailinglist.com)

I mean, is there something special done to the mail stored on the progsoc
mailing list that
makes it available as an archive on the progsoc site?
