[ProgSoc] FreeBSD serial login problem

Hi all,

I'm having some difficulty getting my new FreeBSD box to accept
serial logins. The terminal software I'm using (crappy hyperterminal)
doesn't receive any response from BSD at all. Misc technical
details follow:

The control lines seem to be asserted correctly by both sides'
hardware, with the acception of Carrier Detect (I'm a little
suspicious of this, but it shouldn't matter for a hard wired terminal).

BSD's serial port is set using a "stty -f ttyd0 crtscts 115200",
which doesn't generate any errors. Reading the settings back give
results that appear OK (I can't quote them atm, I'm in win2k).

The getty is configured in "ttys" like so: "ttyd0 <path to getty>
std.115200 on insecure". Again, nothing complains about this and
sending init a -HUP spawns a corresponding getty. I've also tried
starting a getty manually, with no success either.

The symptom is as metioned above; the terminal refuses to
acknowledge the existance BSD (ie, BSD doesn't send anything). I
noticed in top that the serial getty was in a "siodcd" state. Does
anyone know what this state means?

Any help would be great :-)
Thanks
