Of course ... the question will one day arise -- if this exodus from TV
really is true, who is going to pay for and pick up the shows?
The mass exodus is happening, but it's a mass exodus from *TV* as
opposed to a mass exodus from *TV Shows*. I've been thinking about this
a bit recently and I think it's important to make that distinction.
Witness the mass downloading of Battlestar Galatica and the huge swarm
numbers on OC torrents every time a new episode comes out (I saw the
numbers on my friends computer ... ah who the fuck am I kidding. Bring
on Summer.).
There is as much a demand for quality TV shows as there was before the
internet. People have just realised there are better ways to distribute
the content (DVD, online etc). As numerous people have pointed all over
the interweb you would only need a few pennies from each viewer to make
a show commercially viable because you have a lot more potential
viewers: people from other countries, people who missed the show etc.
TV is going to beat Hollywood to the legal internet and the guy who
starts the process is going to make a lot of coin.
end rant.
