Subject: [PROGSOC-STATUS] medusa, orgo, baalzebub and incubus (and others) status

medusa (firewall):
has been upgraded to a 2.6 kernel and will (now) properly come
back up after a power failure; just whack the switch and it'll
	work

orgo (dns, ldap, nfs):
has been upgraded to an SMP 2.6 kernel -- unfortunately bugs
means that it will only boot every now and then. The bugs are in
the initramfs / udev scripts; not sure which. A downgrade to
2.6.8 or switching to initrd could solve this.

Is currently running an SMP 2.4 kernel, which causes the network
card to lock up under heavy load. Probably time to be replaced.
I'd recommend buying two and bonding them together to give
	better bandwidth.

Has 3 IDE disk drives on 2 DMA channels; the machine has 4
channels. With 2 x 80 pin IDE cables we ought to be able to
increase disk throughput to 33MB/s easily.

baalzebub (general access, mail):
successfully upgraded to a 2.6 kernel; whoever last installed a
kernel forgot to run ybin(8) to update the settings in the right
	place.

incubus (general access, databases, mail, web):
upgraded to a 2.6 kernel, has similiar boot issues to orgo; once
booted should stay up all the time though. Currently set to
autoboot into 2.6 but could be reconfigured to autoboot into 2.4

succubus (general access, databases, mail, web):
offline and generally inaccessible until the CSO has had an
opportunity to look at it more closely

geryon (general access):
not correctly authenticating to LDAP, inaccessible to all but
	root
