For a Debian install, you should only need to d/l the 130mb (or so)
netinst CD iso, and then exactly as much data as you need to install
the system. Downloading any other iso's is pretty pointless, unless
you intend to install on a non-net-connected computer. This, so it
seems, is not the case here.

Note that the FUDdites warning you of installation problems continue
to fall prey to the belief that you install your OS regularly. This
is perhaps the fate of RH/FC users, but for Debian users you install
once, and upgrade thereafter. So when evaluating a distro, consider
whether you want to spend more time installing (once) or more time
fighting your way through dependency hell (forever). I suspect they
also live in the past -- previously it was very confusing for some
people to install Debian, because they had to read things written on
their monitor, and then type in responses. These days there's less
to read, and less to type, and the dumbening down continues.

If you're using this box remotely, you'll also probably not want
to bother with a full blown X server on it at all -- instead using
 VNC over the wire.

You'll get lots of Debian assistance on this mailing list, as well as
the #debian IRC channel (though the signal:noise ratio there is
 dropping fast).
