The merits of OS X are still present beyond the development platform.

I don't think you could legitimately argue that way because as far as
I'm aware, Windows Vista and Windows XP are available for legal purchase
outside the OEM distribution model. Not only that, but Apple provides
you with software [1] to make it easy. Of course, the MSDN:AA makes
things cheaper/easier.
