Hi all.... 8-)

I think that we are all getting a little hot under the collar.
I would like to find some sort of common ground amoungst us first.

1) Do we all agree that those responsible should be punished? eg account
lockings, black-bans etc. Actions that tarnish the reputation of Progsoc
should be looked into and acted upon quickly and efficiently. None of us
like the idea of Progsoc being under possible investigation from all
these different sources.

2) None of like the idea of being cut from the net. Even those
responsible don't like that idea.

Some Observations....

1) I firmly believe that there is a lack of education about the AUP. I
believe also that this is not nessecarily the fault of Progsoc because
SOCS doesn't make theirs clear either. Both of us have one but the
majority don't understand what it is all about.

2) Cutting the packets is an _extremely_ drastic measure BUT there has
been alot of pressure to get this situation under control. What I am
dissapointed at is the fact that there was not enough talk amoungst the
executive. I am not trying to criticise either Denis or Phil because I
know that they are trying to do whats best, but I would like to have had
a better understanding about what happened (before it happened) rather
than reading it in the mail the next day.

3) It seems to me that the discussions in the mail are starting to
degenerate into a personal war.

May I offer some solutions.....

1) Inform Progsoc members that they are not just getting a new machine to
play with but a society which stands behind its use. A section in TFM
outlining the AUP. Possibly some sort of document that the new member may
need to sign at least so that we know that they know that something like
an AUP exsists.

2) The Packets should be let loose again. The initial role that it played
is over (that of damage control). The discussion has started and people
are more aware of what is `good' and what is `bad'.

3) Lets keep our views `Professional'.

4) Call a SGM, or at least the executive should get together and discuss
this mess.

Thats my say...

Peace on Earth and Packets to all....

George.
