Postscript, Ghostscript, Ghostview, and Windows

I've just pulled a whole bunch of really interesting papers on techniques
for improving the efficiency of Object Oriented Systems off the net. I
then spent all night printing them using Ghostview and Ghostscript (using
the windows ports of those programs) I didn't have the time to fiddle
with drivers etc that I don't even know I have under linux.

2 things occurred to me doing this:

1) There must be a way to put together a postscript document that's
really convenient and easy. Now what do people do? Just use a postscript
printer driver and their favourite Desktop Publisher and print to file or
is there some nicer way of doing it?

2) Ghostscript is very very slow, especially under windows and produces
huggggge spool files! I know this is because everything goes to the
printer as raster graphics but does anyone on this list know of any
faster program for printing postscript (not just EPS - painshop pro would
do that) - I'm particularly interested in something under windows since
that's where I do my report writing.

p.s. I'm using Ghostscript 2.61 which I know is about a year old - that's
the first thing I'll do when I have time....find a newer version....any
other suggestions though?
