[ProgSoc] Recovery Plan

Hi all,
just thought I should post a little more after my last (already
rediculously long) email to reassure people that progsoc isn't totally
screwed, and that things are being done by the admin team to make sure
things keep working.

Right after sending out my last email, it occurred to me I'd forgotten
entirely about baalzebub, our barely used iMac (yes, we also have dispater
too, but adding an osx mail server would be a huge deal right now). While
not that most powerful of machines, its specs are actually better than
sutekh's on paper, so it should be more than enough to take over basic
services when needed. To do this, I've already emailed ITD to request
that port 25 be opened for it so I can set up exim on it. I've also
requested geryon have its mail port open. While I don't expect it to
handle a great deal of mail, at the moment I'll do anything to gain some
redundancy.

So what this means is that above all, mail will keep on being delivered.
CVS will also be accessible, since it will be installed on both geryon and
baalzebub. I'll try to have web access up and running as well off
baalzebub, which shouldn't be too hard, but it's a secondary priority
right now. As for SQL access, it's the one thing which will likely face
the most interruption since it's not as easy replicated across servers.
However, once I get the first of the new sunblades up and working
properly, I'll migrate the databases across.

If anyone has any particular concerns I haven't addressed, feel free to
post, but hopefully services should not face any severe interruptions.
Just for those worried about collecting their mail, I'd suggest using
mail.progsoc.uts.edu.au as your client's mail server address. I'm using
it right now, and it is kept updated to the current best mail server, so
you don't have to change your setup.
