CC: AUC Representatives

Hi all,

This is to announce the roll out of the AUDF Grants for 2004. Our apologies
for the delay with the release of this program. A few of the grant details
have changed from 2003 so please take the time to read the following
information and check out the information on the AUC web site.

- AUC Web Site
The AUC web site is your main information resource for AUDF Grants. It
has a lot of information about the 2004 round of grants and includes:

- Application details for Seeding and Development Grants
- Time-line details including closing dates
- Background info of the AUDF Grants
- Successful grant applications from previous years
- Grant focus for 2004
- List of local AUDF Co-ordinators with contact details

<http://www.auc.edu.au/audf/audf04/>

A quick review of the 3 types of Grants available this year-

- Seeding Grants
Aimed at students and staff who have not developed on the Macintosh
platform before but have some basic background in programming on other
platforms. Grant recipients will receive a loan Macintosh computer
(exact model to be determined), copy of CodeWarrior programming
environment, enrolment in the Apple Student Developer program and
support from local Macintosh developers.

Seeding Grants applications are via an on-line form on the AUC web site.

- Development Grants
Proof-of-concept projects, from staff and students with a strong
preference for "pilot" products that are actually of some use in their
own right. Grant recipients are allocated up to $10K worth of equipment,
software and other resources.

Development Grant applications are via an application form (Word) available
on the web site.

- Challenge Grants *NEW*
This new series of 'Challenge' grants will provide resources to encourage
staff to work up proposals for Macintosh-based applications for which they
see a particular need but don't have the skills or expertise to develop a
solution; the program will match those proposals with individual developers
or specialist groups in AUC universities. Developers will be provided with
resources to bring the concepts to fruition.

Application is via an expression of interest email outlining the Challenge.

- Equipment Ownership

Note that since 2002, all AUDF Grant equipment remains the property of the
AUC and is on loan to grant recipients for their exclusive use during the
grant period. Continued use of the equipment is subject to regular reporting
and satisfactory progress as assessed by the AUDF Review Committee.

- Timelines for 2004/5

15th December 2004 - AUDF Grants Applications Open
4th February 2005 - AUDF Grant Applications Close
18th February 2005 - AUDF Grants Announced

- Promotion

The AUDF Grants are one of the major benefits of your University being
an AUC member so it is important to promote this information on campus
and to colleagues and students as much as possible.

Most Universities operate a 'Portal' web page for staff and students and it
would be great if you could organise a link to the AUC web site
<http://www.auc.edu.au/audf/audf04/>.

We will also have information in Campus Review, MacWorld and on Apple
Australia's web site. Any local promotion you can do such as student
newspapers and email lists is also encouraged.

I will also be sending an email out to the AUC News mailing list with
details. Please feel free to forward the AUC News email internally to your
staff and students.

- Help!

If you need any assistance or have any queries regarding the AUDF Grants
for 2004 please feel free to email or call me. All suggestions and comments
are welcome.

Cheers
Andrew
