Job Summary

This is a full-time position reporting to the APAC Lab Manager in Australia.

APAC Labs provide facilities use by both local and remote engineers in
the support of Sun customers' critical issues.

The incumbent will be responsible for the daily administration and
maintenance of the lab infrastructure in Sydney, Australia along with
assisting lab users with reservation, installation and configuration
of lab equipment.


Job Description

This position will form part of a team responsible with providing
lab services and capabilities for use by both local and remote engineers
in the support of Sun customers' critical issues.

The incumbent will be working within the Australian lab location
on a daily basis and will assist with the operation of remote labs
and their staff as required.


Duties will include but not limited to:
- the daily operational responsibilities including administration and
maintenance of lab infrastructure.
- install and configure equipment to replicate customer environments.
- assist with the troubleshooting of both H/W and S/W configuration issues.
- project and development works to improve lab capabilities and tools.
- provide support & training to engineers in the use of tools and equipment.
- identifies improvements and requirements for infrastructure and inventory.
- working with suppliers for purchasing and delivery of inventory.
- work as part of a global team
- learning new H/W and S/W products as they are released.



Skills:
- Willingness and ability to absorb a large amount of information
within a short timeframe.
- Ability to communicate effectively with highly technical people.
- Familiar with switch infrastructure and terminal servers.
- Programming expertise with Java & perl.
- Database experience a bonus.
- Enjoys problem solving and troubleshooting.
- Effective reading and research skills.
- Ability to work unsupervised.
- Installation and system administration of Solaris.
- Understanding of networks and naming services.
- Prior knowledge of Sun H/W a bonus.
