Thanks for that.

I reconfigured my NFS4 client to use idmap in /etc/default/nfs-common 
[1]. But I still have the problem. The idmapd.conf file is the same on 
both client and server [2].

  root at charity:/etc# cat /etc/idmapd.conf


  Verbosity = 0
  Pipefs-Directory = /var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs
  Domain = localdomain


  Nobody-User = nobody
  Nobody-Group = nogroup
